CBR Network ( South Asia ) is an international NGO working towards networking of all NGOs active in the field of Community Based Rehabilitation and Education of Persons with Disabilities, Women and Rural Development. With its regional office in Bangalore , in India , the Network is spread over Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra , Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. At the international level, the Network is linked with Bangladesh , Nepal , Pakistan , Bhutan , Maldives and Sri Lanka and Afghanistan . Since its inception in 1993, CBR Network is very active in accomplishing the snowballing effect through Dissemination of Information, Technical support, Training, Planning and Management of CBR Programmes, Research and Publications.

After the establishment of the south Asian CBR Network it was agreed by the executive board that the network should have regional conferences in every 2 years for coordination, sharing information and development of common vision for the implementation and promotion of the CBR Concept in the member countries. The 4 th regional conferences was held in Katmandu Nepal in October 2007.

During the 4 th Conference in October 2007, it was agreed by all the participants from the member Contraries to have the 5 th South Asian CBR Network conference in Kabul Afghanistan in 2009. Therefore the Afghanistan National CBR Network which is the member of the South Asian CBR Network accepted to host the 5 th South Asian CBR Network Conference and now the conference will be held in the 28-30 March  2010 .

Theme of the Conference will be:

“The role of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) in empowering women and children with disabilities”

Objectives of the conference are:

 

  1. To strengthen ways of empowering people with disabilities through CBR, with a particular focus on women and children.
  2. To share regional initiatives and achievements in CBR across the South Asian regional network
  3. To share experiences of CBR within the context of Afghanistan
  4. Promote the importance of the implementation of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD)
